A two vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon sent three women, two children and a man to the hospital. Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Highway 84 West and Highway 28. Upon arrival, firefighters found two damaged vehicles - a car blocking one lane of the road and an SUV to the shoulder of the road. According to reports, an adult male was driving the car and three women, two children were in the SUV. All were transported to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel with what was believed to be only minor injuries.

An 18-wheeler hauling logs rolled over Tuesday morning on Highway 29 near Maxey Road, leaving two people injured. Pleasant Ridge, Calhoun and Hebron Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident. Upon arrival, firefighters advised that one lane of the highway was completely blocked by the wrecked vehicle and logs had spilled onto the shoulder, spanning several yards. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle sustained what was believed to be minor injuries and the passenger sustained minor to potentially moderate injuries. Both were transported by EMServ to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Nine participants with the Firefighter 1 class attended their final testing day at the Mississippi State Fire Academy Saturday. After undergoing strenuous skills testing under the intense heat of the sun, all nine students received their Firefighter 1 certification. The Jones County Volunteer Fire Service welcomes and congratulates these individuals for successfully completing the intense classwork, skills days and final skill testing.

A one vehicle rollover on Lower Myrick Road Saturday evening ejected both the driver and the passenger. According to reports, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a power pole and began rolling multiple times before coming to rest in the front yard of a home. Firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders arriving on scene found that the vehicle - a pickup truck - had landed upright and on top of the passenger, trapping him underneath; the driver landed near the vehicle. Firefighters quickly and carefully removed the passenger from underneath the truck. Around midnight Saturday, South Jones, Southwest Jones and Boggy Volunteer Fire Departments, along with Ellisville Fire Department, responded to the scene of a house fire on Pittman Road just off of Highway 590. According to reports, a third party caller reported that smoke was coming from the structure but could not advise further. Initial units to arrive on scene found heavy smoke pouring from one bedroom and the carport of the home and it was advised that an interior attack would need to be performed.
